Learn what your house really needs, and how to save big.

Electrification means moving a home’s systems, space heating, water heating, cooking, and laundry, from fossil fuels like natural gas over to efficient electric equipment. It doesn’t have to happen all at once. Many Hillsboro homeowners do it in stages: a heat pump when the furnace needs replacing, a heat pump water heater when the old tank is due, an induction range whenever the kitchen gets updated next.

Why it matters for a city growing this fast. Hillsboro’s newer developments, places like South Hillsboro and the area around Orenco Station, often start closer to electrification-ready than older homes near the original downtown core. If you’re building new or buying newer construction, planning your electrification roadmap early avoids retrofitting it later. If your home is older, replacing a dying gas furnace with a heat pump uses up to three times less energy than resistance-based electric heating, and a heat pump water heater uses roughly 70% less energy than a standard electric tank.

How we build a plan

  1. Assessment. We look at your current systems, energy use, electrical panel capacity, and where the building envelope is losing energy.
  2. Custom roadmap. You get a written plan laying out upgrade options, sequencing if you’re doing this in stages, estimated savings, and which incentive programs apply to each step.
  3. Implementation. Installation follows building science principles, accounting for ductwork, air leakage, and insulation alongside the equipment itself.

What's typically included

Space heating and cooling through heat pump replacements for furnaces or baseboard heaters, water heating through heat pump water heaters, and building envelope work (insulation, air sealing, and ventilation) planned alongside the equipment changes.

Incentives and rental properties

Electrification incentives are expanding at the state and utility level, and Energy Trust of Oregon incentives apply to many of the individual upgrades involved (heat pumps, water heaters, insulation). With close to half of Hillsboro’s housing renter-occupied, state-supported programs through the Oregon Department of Energy sometimes offer reduced-cost heat pump installation for rental properties, subject to funding availability. See our incentives page for the current picture.

Why plan this with Resilient Retrofits

We’re a licensed Oregon contractor (CCB #245539) that treats electrification as a sequencing problem, not a single sale. A roadmap built around your actual home, new or established, holds up better than a single recommendation that ignores the rest of the house.
